Every instructor passes a six-stage check: DVSA registration, insurance, DBS (criminal record) check, a voice-call interview, an in-person test drive where we ride along and judge their driving and teaching for ourselves, and ongoing learner feedback. A badge proves they're registered - we make sure they can actually drive and teach.
Can you guarantee I'll pass my test?
No, and any company that promises a "guaranteed pass" is misleading you. The DVSA decides who passes. What we can guarantee is that you'll be matched with a top-ranked, vetted instructor, follow a structured course, and have support all the way through to your test.
How do you choose instructors?
We find DVSA-registered instructors across Leeds, then run a six-stage vetting process: register verification, insurance check, DBS check, a voice-call interview, and an in-person test drive where we ride along and assess how they actually drive and teach, plus onboarding. Once active, every instructor is ranked by learner feedback and pass rates. Top-rated instructors get first dibs on leads.
Can I request a male or female instructor?
Yes. Plenty of learners prefer a male or female instructor - whether for religious or cultural reasons, comfort, or just personal preference. Tell us when you book and we'll match you with an instructor who fits. If we don't have availability in your exact preference at your postcode, we'll be upfront with you about it before you pay anything.
What if my instructor and I don't click?
You get one free instructor swap in your first three lessons. Just message us on WhatsApp, we sort it. No drama.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes. We offer Klarna and Payl8r for monthly payments. Apply at checkout. Approval takes seconds, you only pay your normal monthly amount, we get paid in full upfront.
How is the price split between PassFirst and my instructor?
Simple: you pay PassFirst a deposit upfront (this covers our matching, vetting, admin, and guarantees). Your instructor collects the balance directly from you in cash or bank transfer at your first lesson. We don't take a percentage of your instructor's lesson fees.
Do you cover my area?
We cover all of Greater Leeds including LS1-LS28, Pudsey, Horsforth, Morley, Garforth, and surrounding postcodes. If you're outside this, message us anyway and we'll let you know.
Can I take the course intensively or spread it out?
Both options are available, same price. When you book, you'll tell us your preferred pace - 5 hours a day for a 1-2 week intensive, or 2 hours a week over a couple of months. We match you with an instructor whose availability fits your plan.
What if I fail my test?
You can rebook a test and continue lessons with your instructor as normal. Most learners pass within 1-3 attempts, and your instructor will support you through it - they already know exactly what to work on for your retest.
Are your instructors employed by PassFirst?
No. Our instructors are independent ADIs who choose to take learners through our platform. They run their own businesses, use their own dual-control cars, and set their own teaching schedule. We handle marketing, matching, and learner support. They handle the teaching.
Why are you cheaper than the big national schools?
We're a focused operation, not a national brand running TV ads. Less overhead, lower prices for you. Same quality of instructor, same structured course approach, 30-40% less. It's not a catch.

Why I started PassFirst.
I'll be honest - PassFirst started out of pure frustration. When I was learning, I went through several instructors across different schools. They were all registered with good reviews, but a few of them could barely communicate with me in plain English. I wasted lessons, wasted money, and nearly gave up.
The maddening part? The genuinely brilliant instructors were out there the whole time. I just had no way to find them, because every school only ever pushes its own.
So I built PassFirst to be the unbiased middleman I wish I'd had. We're not tied to any one school.
